Windows "computer comment" in registry

I have a ton of machines on the LAN that all have unhelpful descriptions (or Net View "remarks"). Here's how to fix (I'll just use remote registry). HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters change the srvcomment reg_sz value to something helpful, descriptive, etc. Pittsburgh Finance SQL MaryBeth's Dell Latitude D600 Horribly old Gateway that desperately needs to be recycled

The computer description appears before the computer name in Windows XP

Here's how to undo either those silly "share on server (drive letter)" or "Description (computer name)" in Windows XP, 2003 & etc. Finally. MS KB: The computer description appears before the computer name in Windows XP Of course, Windows 2000 didn't have that nonsense enabled. Solid.

Slipstreaming Windows

I've been putting off slipstreaming a windows cd at work for some time. Finally had to get it done. Man, if it were any easier, it'd be pitiful. Good: Paul T shows you how to easily slipstream a Service Pack. Better: HFSLIP automagically pulls down service packs AND hotfixes, slipstreaming everything into into a single directory for burning. Awesome. Best: Nlite will use the directory that HFSLIP created above to create a bootable ISO, for use with VMWare or for burning. (It'll also slipstream the SP or HF's, as HFSLIP). Nlite also lets you tweak the Windows install. NICE. Cool stuff.
